Canada Study Visa application process from India

Canada is a popular international study destination for students from all over the world. If you want to study in Canada, you will need to first obtain a Canada study visa. Let us understand the application process and study visa requirements in detail:

Applying for Canada Study Visa

A Canada study Visa allows an individual to study at a DLI (Designated Learning Institution) in Canada. A foreign national applying for a Study Visa should be aware that there are eligibility requirements that must be met when submitting the study permit application. In addition, certain conditions must be met throughout the student’s stay in Canada.

There are numerous steps involved in applying for a study permit, and processing times vary greatly between countries, so it is best to plan it at the earliest to ensure your permit is processed before your study program begins. The majority of Canadian post-secondary educational programs begin in September, January, or May, with a few exceptions offering intakes outside of those dates.

Since a foreign nationals cannot apply for a study permit unless they have received an acceptance letter, they should check the start date and application process for their schools and programs of interest, well in advance to ensure they have enough time to obtain the acceptance letter and complete the study permit application.

The Requirements for Canada Study Visa

If you are applying for a Canadian study visa, you must meet two sets of Canada Study visa requirements: eligibility requirements and requirements while studying in Canada.

Eligibility Requirements

To be eligible to apply for a study permit and Canadian immigration, you must meet the following requirements:

Supporting Documentation:

All study permit applications must include extensive supporting documentation. This documentation differs from one country to the next. Application Process for Canada Immigration

There are four stages to getting a Canadian study visa:

Examine your eligibility

Check to see if you are eligible for a Canada study visa. You will need an acceptance letter from a DLI, proof of financial support, and a variety of documents such as  passport, medical certificates, language test reports – that vary depending on your citizenship and residence country.

Prepare your application

If you meet all of the eligibility requirements, you can start working on your study permit application. Check that you have all the necessary documents for your country. Immigration officers have the authority to deny study permits if they believe an applicant has not met all requirements, so you should consult a qualified immigration representative to review your application before submission.

Submit your application

While submitting your application, you have two choices:

If your study permit is approved, start planning your stay and study in Canada

It is important to note that your Canadian study permit will not be issued until you arrive at a Canadian Port of Entry (POE). The Canadian government will issue you a Port of Entry Introduction Letter if your permit is approved. To obtain your study permit, you must keep this letter and show it to an immigration official when you arrive in Canada.

Please keep in mind that your study permit does not serve as a visa. This means that, depending on your country of origin, you may require a travel visa to visit the POE in Canada. The following categories are defined:

Visa Exempt Countries:

Citizens of these countries do not need a visa to enter Canada. You can obtain your study permit directly at the Port of Entry. Please keep in mind that you may still need an Electronic Travel Authorization (eTA) to visit Canada.

Non-Visa Exempt Countries:

Citizens of these countries must obtain a visa to enter Canada. When your study permit application is approved, the visa officer will send you a travel visa that will allow you to visit Canada.

If you have legally entered Canada, you may apply from within the country. Your study permit will be mailed to you if it is approved.

Study Permit Exemptions

Not all foreign nationals need a permit to study in Canada. Some of the most common exemptions from the study permit requirement are mentioned below:

Short-Term Studies

If a foreign national is completing a program of study that lasts six months or less, they do not need a study permit. If a foreign national takes longer than six months to complete such a program, they must obtain a study permit before the initial six-month period expires.

Minor children in Canada

Minor children, those under the age of 18 or 19 (the age varies by province), do not need a study permit to attend kindergarten, pre-school, primary, or secondary school if one of the following conditions is met:

Foreign military personnel

A member of a foreign armed force on active duty in Canada does not need a permit to study. Their family members, on the other hand, may require study permits.
